~A Word of Encouragement from Cris~

Today officially triggered me to get back to blogging. If you're having a bad day or could simply use a lift, keep reading! It's taken me forever to even start getting my act together, but I'm proud to share what I've learned through trial and error, and hope it will improve your day. The lyrics to my song "Hope" kind of sum it up... but here goes nothing...

Remember that if life is hard, you're on the right path. Yeah, yeah, you've heard it all before: nothing worth having comes easily. At the end of the day (or night, whichever shift you may be working), remember that you know who you are, and not even life's daily drudgery can take that from you. You are beautiful, smart, strong, amazing, and God created you for a purpose. You are good. He gave you all of that talent and your UNIQUE strengths and abilities so that you could CHANGE this world for the better, dark and lonely though it may seem. Life can take your money, worldly possessions, status symbols, sense of security, vehicles, friends, family, pets, energy, health and even self-esteem. It will break you to the point of screaming, "What am I even DOING!?" But it can never take the beauty in your heart, the smile on your face, the light in your eyes, the love that you've given or the nerve to get back up when you've been knocked down. You TRULY are special. You CAN make a difference. And when you hit rock bottom, reach down deep and find a kind word for someone else who may be in just as much pain as you.

Speaking of others, surround yourself with positive, non-judgmental people. Iron sharpens iron... consider yourself lucky if you find someone who challenges you to constantly be your best and THANK them for pushing you forward! Your real friends and supporters will never tell you to take the easy way out, or try to separate you from your other real friends.
Whether life is a series of bizarre tests designed so only the strong survive (and let's be honest -- obviously the cruel and stupid get by too -- but let's not be part of the problem) or a mysterious Halloween horror-type maze that only becomes more frightening the farther you go, there are beautiful moments worth fighting for... and that's what you're doing. And in case no one has told you today, you're doing a great job!

I don't know what the reward is for hanging in there. That hasn't been revealed to me, and we rarely get those types of answers. Just know that I care about you, and so do your loved ones, and that someone somewhere wants nothing more than to sit on the beach holding your hand. Don't let anyone or anything in this wild world make you forget who you are and what you can accomplish!

Making progress is HARD, but what does the alternative really offer? How can we find inner peace if we refuse to take a chance at living our best lives? I have a theory that the most negative among us are so unhappy because they are afraid to reach for their goals and better their own lives... which is why they constantly belittle other people. I believe each one of us has the potential to achieve our dreams. I challenge you to do one positive thing you've been putting off to change your life for the better today. No one said it would be easy, or that those dreams are limited to one area of your life. It's NEVER too late to live your best life. So work hard, be diverse, and reach for the sky... there are lots of other people who will cheer you on (and we can drown out the ones who want to drag you down).

So when you're ready to scream, run away, throw something or just plain quit, take a deep breath and remember: there is strength in adversity, and the hardest part of climbing to the mountain top is taking that last step forward. Hang in there a little longer just when you think you've used your last bit of strength. That one last push forward is the most rewarding. You have it inside you! You can always email me for a word of encouragement at cris@criswilliams.com. Just don't expect me to condone laziness. If I can do it anyone can!
